Jennifer Lopez On-line!!!

So in my English class we watched a J.Lo. music video to her song "If You Had My Love" and now I'm writing this weblog about that video. I guess it was made in '98-'99, something like that, and Jennifer Lopez is in this camera equipped house, I mean camera's everywhere. So J.Lo. dances and sings in front of all these camera's and at the begining of the video a website comes up called "Jennifer Lopez On-Line" which has all these camera's live feed going on. When watching this video you feel like a third party as well as one of the website users. When it's a third party view it's you watching other people watch J.Lo. on her website. The first person is you, the viewer, looking/watching her directly. The style is kinda cool, it is all dark and shadowy but when you watch J.Lo. she's all light up and in light colored clothing, or nothing at all (spoiler alert). Also Jennifer Lopez is the main object of view. The others in the video are a little girl dancing like J.Lo , telephone receptionists, some macanics, a dj at a club, this creepy guy in the dark (which every time he clicks something new that's what the video does and that is also what the other computer/internet goer's watch, so he's kinda controlling the music video) and then some other girls and a guy in a pool (underwater). Cool thing, I think, about this video is that being made in the late 90's it's helping people to start using the internet more. At some points in the video you see the website "Jennifer Lopez On-Line" is on a page called "Internet T.V." I think that the director of the video and J.Lo were trying to get the viewers of the music video to be turned on to the internet, that it offers more than people think. So yeah, it was a pretty cool class, seeing as how we talked about texting, blogging, and then watched a music video, yeah, it was a cool class.

I posted this on my blog, but do you really think that J.Lo's camera work is really a live feed? Wouldn't that mean if they clicked on shower and she wasn't in there then it would just show an empty shower? Because if that was live feed then she was super fast moving from room to room and changing outfits. Not only would that guy be really creepy, but J.Lo should just ask him to stalk her :) See you tmrw!

What do you think is the significance of creating a video like this? You think the style is cool and creative, but why was it done in a web camera format?

Evan: Nice post, but please tell us a bit more....If JLo is the main object of view (which I agree, she is...you can't get around it), then what is the purpose of the website overlay and the "internet TV?" How does that affect her as the object of our gaze? A video writer/director and JLo could just have different views of herself, if they wanted to merely convey her as the object of gaze, but they chose to do the internet/web thing as a controller of the viewers' gaze. Hmmmm, I say.
