Poetry Poetry and Nakamura

So the way I see Nakamura (even though I was not in class) is she percivied JLo as being some type of tramp. "..Lopez presents herself in this video as an object of interactivity..." says Nakamura. I could see where Nakamura would think that, I mean most of us should have an idea. JLo is dancing in close showing her mid-drift, she’s also in a bikini top and in the shower, she’s dancing in a house full of cameras that are broadcasting live on the internet, If that is not enough examples for you well it was enough for Nakamura. Jennifer Lopez did the video in a good way. She could have done with out the nudity for a more tasteful video but I’m not complaining lolz. She was just trying to get more people “turned on” to the internet (pun intented). You have to remember that this video was out in 1999 so the internet didn’t have the capabilities as it does now. It was a new thing to a lot of people and so JLo was trying to hook in more of her fans, Male or female. It also wasen’t like she was doing a non-normal thing by dancing a little risce, teenage pop sensations, especially the females, would wear some skimpy clothing and dance a little dirty in a video or two.

Now I haven’t read the Bob Dylan poem so I’ll write about that next week, but I’m really excited to read it by reading others blog’s about it. A deep meaning of life.

“Little Boxes” I know from the show “Weeds” on Showtime with actress Mary-Louise Parker, but I’m sure that was covered in class. The words of the poem and/or song are really cool.

1. Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes made of ticky-tacky,
Little boxes, little boxes,
Little boxes, all the same.
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they're all made out of ticky-tacky
And they all look just the same.

2. And the people in the houses
All go to the university,
And they all get put in boxes,
Little boxes, all the same.
And there's doctors and there's lawyers
And business executives,
And they're all made out of ticky-tacky
And they all look just the same.

3. And they all play on the golf-course,
And drink their Martini dry,
And they all have pretty children,
And the children go to school.
And the children go to summer camp
And then to the university,
And they all get put in boxes
And they all come out the same.

4. And the boys go into business,
And marry, and raise a family,
And they all get put in boxes,
Little boxes, all the same.
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they're all made out of ticky-tacky
And they all look just the same

Now thinking about these verses going along with the opening credit of “Weeds” is a very nice representation of what the words mean. The show is about “dealing” in the Suburbs and so the opening sequence has some Suburban life.

The words are saying to me how everything is becoming the same. How people living in the Suburbs are all living in the same kind of house, have the same car(s), and have little set routines that they do everyday. We don’t wanna be “ticky-tacky” and “All the same”. We want to be cool and hip, wear the right clothes, drink the right drink,… Well not really lolz. We just want to live our lives freely and in our own fashion (At least I would hope you would want to live your life for yourself!)

I’d like to finish by saying Happy April Fools day! I’ve already had some fun!!!

Here are some fun things to do:

Saran wrap a toilet
Shaving cream a friends bathroom
Scare a friend
Pants a friend
Buy chocolate in front of your friends and then eat it or ask who wants it and give it to someone else…

Always say April Fools!
